چکیده

We present the computation of effective refractive coefficients for inhomogeneous two-component grains with 3 kinds of inclusions with m incl = 3.0 + 4.0i, 2.0 + 1.0i, 2.5 + 0.0001i and a matrix with m m = 1.33 + 0.01i for 11 volume fractions of inclusions from 0% to 50%. The coefficients of extinction for these grains have been computed using a discrete dipole approximation (DDA). Computation of the extinction by the same method for grains composed of a matrix material with randomly embedded inclusions has been carried out for different volume fractions of inclusions. A comparison of extinction coefficients obtained for both models of grain materials allows to choose the best mixing rule for a mixture.

On the mixing rules for astrophysical inhomogeneous grains

We present the computation of effective refractive coefficients for inhomogeneous two-component grains with 3 kinds of inclusions with mincl = 3.0 + 4.0i, 2.0 + 1.0i, 2.5 + 0.0001i and a matrix with mm = 1.33 + 0.01i for 11 volume fractions of inclusions from 0% to 50% and wavelengths λ=0.5, 1.0, 2.0 and 5.0 μm. The coefficients of extinction for these grains have been computed using a discrete...

Modelling the optical properties of composite and porous interstellar grains

There are indications that interstellar and interplanetary dust grains have an inhomogeneous and fluffy structure. We investigate different methods to describe light scattering by such composite particles. Both a model of layered particles and discrete dipole calculations for particles with Rayleigh and non-Rayleigh inclusions are used. The calculations demonstrate that porosity is a key parame...

Modelling of surface chemistry on an inhomogeneous interstellar grain

Context. Many interstellar molecules are formed through grain surface reactions. These reactions are usually modelled using rate equations, while considering a homogeneous grain with only one type of binding site for each species. However, amorphicity and the irregular character of interstellar dust grains make inhomogeneous grain surfaces much more likely. Aims. The aim of this study is to inv...

Inhomogeneous Chemical Evolution of the Galactic Halo: Abundance of r-process Elements

We present a stochastic model based on the Monte Carlo technique to study the inhomogeneous chemical evolution of the Galactic halo. In particular, we consider the local enrichment and subsequent mixing of the interstellar gas resulting from bursts of star formation, following explicitly the fragmentation and coalescence of interstellar gas clouds. The model takes into account the mixing of hal...

Velocities and Rotational Rates of Interstellar Dust Grains

Interstellar dust grains exhibit complex dynamics which is essential for understanding many key interstellar processes that involve dust, including grain alignment, grain growth, grain shattering etc. Grain rotational and translational motions are affected not only by gaseous collisions, but also by interactions with ions, photons, magnetic fields etc. Some of those interactions, e.g. interacti...
